3 Important Marine Maintenance Parts and Tools to Keep in Your Boat's Tool Box

Posted on: 10 June 2019

Spending time out on your boat is super rewarding, but when something goes wrong out on the water, the most prepared boater is the boater who has a toolbox full of the things they need to make repairs and get on with their trip. It is wise to build a good collection of tools and marine parts to keep in the toolbox you have onboard your boat, and this collection will definitely grow with time. Take a look at a few of the important marine parts and tools that you should always keep in your boat's toolbox.

Battery Terminal Puller

A battery terminal puller is a hugely beneficial thing to have in your marine tool collection. The terminals on marine batteries are slightly more prone to corrosion than most batteries because they are in use out on the water and exposed to the elements more. Unfortunately, this means that when you need to change the battery, you may be left trying to grasp at terminals that are not in that good of shape. The battery terminal puller is designed to grip the terminal so it can be pulled off without you having to actually touch the terminals with your hands.

Spare Bolts

The average boat has several bolts in various places on the vessel and on the equipment that powers the vessel. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for bolts to pop out of whatever they are in at the most inopportune times and plop right into the water. If or when this happens, because it probably will, it is always helpful if you have a few spare bolts tucked in your tool chest. It is a good idea to take a quick inventory of the bolts you would be most likely to lose and pick up a few replacements to keep on deck.

Magnetic Claw Retrieval Tools

Boats are full of nooks and crannies and small crevices where you can drop important items. Having this little gadget in your toolbox will make your life on the water much easier to handle. These magnetic claw retrieval tools come in all kinds of different versions, but the basic purpose of the tool is to allow you to reach into small spaces and grasp whatever you have dropped and pull it toward you. The retrieval tools have a long, sometimes extendable rod that allows you to reach things that may be caught several feet down in a crack.
